Elizabeth K. Newman is the Senior Associate at Mahoney & Jeffrey, PLLC – M&J – The Federal Employee’s Law Firm®.

Ms. Newman concentrates her practice in the areas of discrimination, employment, and labor law, primarily representing Federal employees, managers, senior executives, and labor unions in employment and labor law counseling, litigation, mediation, and arbitration.  In addition, Ms. Newman provides advice and representation to Federal employees and contractors, as well as military personnel, during all phases of the security clearance process from initial application thru investigation and adjudication to appeal. Ms. Newman’s practice frequently involves litigation before such administrative agencies as the U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB), the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the Office of Compliance (OOC), the Defense Office of Hearings and Appeals (DOHA), and the Federal Labor Relations Authority (FLRA).

Ms. Newman is the Deputy General Counsel to Council 260 and Local 2703 of the American Federation of Government Employees, AFL-CIO.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Newman worked as staff counsel at the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) where she advised the Board Members on matters involving unfair labor practices, collective bargaining, and union elections.

Ms. Newman earned her law degree (Juris Doctor) from the Washington College of Law at American University.  In law school, she worked as a student attorney in the law school’s Women and the Law Clinic representing clients in child neglect cases. She received her undergraduate degree (Bachelor of Arts) from Washington and Jefferson College graduating cum laude.

Ms. Newman developed her interest in employment law as a legal intern at the Department of Labor and at the NLRB. During law school, she wrote case summaries for the textbook “Compensatory Damages and Other Remedies in Federal Sector Employment Discrimination Cases.”
